Black History Month - October
Black History Month in the UK is celebrated from October 1st to October 31st 2026. The theme is “Honouring Our Communities”. This theme is for people to look “beyond well-known figures and towards the everyday individuals who sustain, support, and strengthen our society”(Equality and Diversity UK).
The theme talks about everyday contributions of Black individuals who support and strengthen communities. It recognises volunteers, teachers, carers, community leaders, and others whose work often goes unseen. A focus on lived experiences, resilience, and collective progress within Black British history. In October there will be exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, and cultural events. School and university programmes that integrate Black History into the curriculum will be run. There will also be community gatherings and storytelling initiatives highlighting local contributions.
