Great British Pea Week

Great British Pea Week 7th-13th July

Great British Pea week celebrates its tenth anniversary this week. It was established to raise awareness about the benefits and versatility of peas, as well as to support the British Pea farmers. Peas are a sustainable and nutritious food source.

This week is also to raise knowledge and understanding of the pea’s origins and heritage. It is an opportunity to appreciate the “little green nutritional miracles throughout the harvesting season” (National Today)

The pea is a round seed pod of the pod fruit Pisum Sativum. Each pea pod contains yellow or green peas. Pea pods are botanically classified as fruit since they contain seeds and emerge from the ovaries of a (pea) flower.

So why not look up some pea recipes such as Mushy peas or Peas with Lemon?
