International Restart A Heart Day
International Restart A Heart Day is an annual global event on the 16th October to raise awareness about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the importance of knowing how to respond to a cardiac arrest situation.
It was established by the European Resuscitation Council in 2012 and has expanded internationally under the World Restart A Heart aiming to give individuals the ability to save lives by learning CPR and defibrillator use.
Restart A Heart Day is to emphasise that anyone can learn CPR and prompt intervention during cardiac arrest can dramatically improve survival rates. “Globally bystander CPR and early defibrillation could save up to 200,000 lives annually” (ilor.org).
You can become involved by learning CPR, take a certified CPR course to gain essential life-saving skills. Host training sessions and familiarise yourself with the automated external defibrillators (AED’s) and their operation. Spread awareness to encourage others to learn CPR and support First Aid initiatives.
