Thanksgiving Day in the United States is a holiday on the fourth Thursday of November. This year it falls on November 28th. It marks a time for gratitude, reflection and family gatherings.
It has been a holiday since 1863. Many people trace the origins of the modern Thanksgiving to the harvest celebrations the Pilgrims held in Plymouth Massachusetts in 1621.
The idea of Thanksgiving for the harvest is centuries old. Records show the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and of course Native American cultures have a rich tradition of giving thanks at harvest time.
