Student Volunteering Week
10th - 16th February
Students have been volunteering in the United Kingdom since 18th century. Religious societies began in various universities in the UK working with student volunteers to support the sick and prisoners. In the early 19th century missionary associations in Scottish universities and Oxford, Cambridge and London Medical schools started sponsoring mission work aboard.
During the First World War the student volunteers helped provide support to Belgian refugees, engaged in fundraising efforts for the war and worked with the Red Cross to provide first aid.
Student volunteer week is an annual event to give students the opportunity to get involved in activities such as fundraising and tree planting.
