Saint Patricks Day 17th March

Saint Patricks Day  - 17th March

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was a 5th Century missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland. He was born in Roman Britain later captured and taken to Ireland as a slave. He was later freed.

He returned to England and became a monk studying theology and became a priest. He became a Bishop and went back to Ireland to establish churches, monasteries and schools throughout Ireland.

St Patrick’s feast day is 17th March the day when he is believed to have died.

There are many stories of St Patrick, but the main one is of him using a Shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, is most believed. He often helped the poor and needy showing kindness and empathy towards those who were suffering.

For devout Christians particularly Catholics the day is a time to honour St Patrick’s life and legacy, reflecting on his dedication and its impact on Irish culture.

Beyond its religious roots St Patrick’s Day has become a celebration of Irish culture and heritage with parades, festivals and wearing green attire.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!!!
