Loneliness Awareness Week

Loneliness Awareness Week is from the 15th to the 21st June 2026. The Marmalade Trust is a loneliness charity “for all ages dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and supporting people to find social connections.” Their mission is “to create a society where we recognise that loneliness exists and support each other to make new connections.”

When we think about a lonely person we think of someone who is old and sad. However, in real life anyone can feel happy but lonely. We can be young and have a job and still feel lonely. People feel embarrassed about talking about being lonely and it has become stigmatised.

The theme for this awareness week is “Giving Loneliness a Voice” encouraging people to open up about loneliness and foster understanding in workplaces, schools, and communities.

This week is to raise awareness of the prevalence and impact of loneliness. To encourage open conversations to reduce the stigma, promote activities that build meaningful social connections and support mental and physical wellbeing by addressing social isolation.

You can get involved by hosting events, like coffee mornings, group walks or other social events.
