National Eye Health Week
This annual campaign runs from 21st to the 27th of September. It is an UK-wide event to promote the importance of eye health and regular sight tests.
The campaign runs all week and each day has its key theme. On Monday its primary eye care services which promotes routine sight tests and enhanced services. Tuesday is the importance of Children’s eye health and guidance for parents on protecting children’s vision. On Wednesday the theme is Dry eyes explores the links with screen use, menopause, aging and contact lenses. On Thursday the theme is Live Well to See Well. This is about healthy habits for long-term eye health. Friday is Self-Care Fr-eye day which gives everyday eye care tips. Saturday is life through a lens which looks at lens technologies and eyewear trends. On Sunday it is Ageing Eyes which looks at the connections to falls, dementia, and age-related eye conditions.
More than two million people in the UK live with sight loss, half of which is considered avoidable with early detection and healthy habits. National Eye Health Week aims to reduce preventable sight loss by raising awareness and improving access to eye care.(visionmatters.org.uk)
