Organ Donation Week 22nd - 28th September
This is an annual event to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and to encourage people to discuss their decision to donate their organs with their loved ones.
This is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of organ donation and it’s life saving implications. It is also an opportunity to increase the number of people on the organ donor register.
Organ Donation Week is a national campaign focusing on increasing the awareness of organ donation and encouraging people to make an informed decision about donating their organs after death. It is vital to record your organ donation decision on the organ donor register and tell your loved ones. Even though the UK operates a presumed consent organ donation system 173 families last year overruled their loved ones expressed decision to donate.
In the last 31 years more than 100,000 transplants have taken place with 60,000 patients still alive today thanks to this life saving gift ( Kidney Care UK).
