Ramadan

Ramadan 18th February - 18th March

This year Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Tuesday 17th February 2026, and end on either the evening of Wednesday 18th March or Thursday 19th March, depending on the sighting of the moon.

Ramadan is considered sacred in Islamic belief as it commemorates the divine revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammed in 7th Century Arabia.

It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, communal prayer, reflection and community.

Ramadan takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Al-Sawm means to abstain from eating and drinking from dawn until sunset with the sole purpose of worshipping.

The end of Ramadan, which lasts for 29 and 30 days, is marked by the festival of Eid al Fitr, The Festival of the Breaking of the Fast.

Only those who are considered fit and healthy enough can fast. There are exemptions for those who are sick or travelling and for women who are menstruating, pregnant or breastfeeding. Children who have not reached puberty don’t have to fast.

Ramadan Mubarak which means “Blessed Ramadan”.
