24/7 Samaritans Awareness Day/ The Big Listen
“ Samaritans is the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection.” (Samaritans)
Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24th July to highlight the importance of mental health support and suicide prevention.
This day is to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma around seeking help. It is also to encourage conversations about emotional well-being and recognising signs of distress. It is also a time to highlight the life-saving role of Samaritans volunteers who provide round-the-clock listening and support. It is also to raise funds to maintain the Samaritans helpline and support services.
You can participate by raising awareness of the Samaritans work. You could volunteer or donate to the Samaritans. The Samaritans currently have a 24/7 challenge which is for people to do 24 minutes of activity each day to raise funds, such as swimming, yoga, and crafting. Reach out to family , friends or colleagues to offer a listening ear and support.
