World Hepatitis Day 28th July.
This year’s theme is “Hepatitis Lets Break It Down” this is a call for urgent action to “dismantle the financial, social and systemic barriers- including stigma- that stand in the way of hepatitis elimination and liver cancer prevention”(WHO).
This day is to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe disease and liver cancer.
Each year people come together to raise awareness, encourage prevention, and support those living with hepatitis, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the disease as a public health threat.
This campaign is run by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other global partners to bring attention to the main types of hepatitis A, B, C, D and E.
Many people are unaware they are living with hepatitis until it causes severe health issues like liver cirrhosis or cancer.
Facts About World Hepatitis Day 2025
- Viral hepatitis causes more than 1.1 million deaths each year worldwide.
- Most people with hepatitis B or C are unaware of their infection.
- Effective vaccines exist for hepatitis A and B, and treatment can cure hepatitis C.
- The 2025 theme is expected to focus on increasing access to testing and life-saving treatments.
