World Population Day

World Population Day

World Population Day is on the 11th July. It is to raise awareness of our growing global population. It is observed worldwide dedicated to raising awareness about population issues. These issues include family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

This day was started by the United Nations to talk about the importance of investing in people and sustainable development.

This year World population Day highlights the need to address the challenges of the world’s ever increasing population and how it evolves. It is also to emphasise the power of informed choices and fair chances for all.

This day takes place on Friday 11th July as this marks the anniversary of when the global population first reached five billion in 1987.

World population Day is important as the world faces such challenges as climate change, lack of resources and the number of people in different social groups is shifting.

In 2026 the global population is expected to exceed 8.1 billion. People need to think about how population trends affects economic development, environmental sustainability, and quality of life.
