World Smile Day :) Friday 3rd October

This day is to celebrate kindness and joy. A smile can lighten someone’s day and it costs nothing. It will be doing you good as well as when you smile endorphins are created which are neurotransmitters that cause feelings of pleasure.

The colour yellow has been used for the smiley emoji face as it is a symbol of cheerfulness.

Harvey Ball created the circle with a few dots and an upturned curve that has become the emoji. He was concerned that it had been so commercialised, taking away from the happiness of its original meaning that he created World Smile Day to spread joy and love to everyone regardless of race, gender, or geographic location. There is now a Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation after his death in 2001.

Fun facts about smiling, studies have shown smiles can be contagious as the brain release happy hormones so other people smile back, babies begin to smile at 6-8 weeks and there is little evidence to show smiling gives you wrinkles. So go ahead and smile.
