World Thrombosis Day October 13th

This global campaign is led by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), focusing on women’s blood clot risks throughout their life. The theme for this year is “From Head to Toe, Take Control: Prevent Thrombosis Protect Your Health”.

The theme looks at the connection between thrombosis and major health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. The aim of the campaign is “to empower individuals- especially women- to understand risk factors and take preventative action” (Worldtrombosisday.org).

Thrombosis is blood clots that can lead to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), stroke, and other life threatening conditions. The 2026 campaign places special emphasis on women’s health highlighting how clotting risks change during hormonal therapy, pregnancy, post-partum recovery, and menopause. (Worldthrombosisday.org).

“From Head to Toe, Take Control” underscores that thrombosis prevention is essential for all patients and healthcare providers. (World Thrombosis Day).

Learn about thrombosis and how to recognise the signs and symptoms. Raise awareness about blood clots and why prevention matters. Support those affected by blood clots throughout their health journey.
