Global MND Awareness Day

Global Motor Neurone Disease (MND) on the 21st June is dedicated to raising awareness of MND worldwide. It is held every year to coincide with the summer solstice to symbolise a turning point and hope for progress in the fight against MND (mind.org).

Motor Neurone Disease, also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in some countries, causes muscle weakness that gets worse over a few months or years. It’s usually life-shortening and there’s currently no cure, but treatment can help manage the symptoms. (NHS)

Global MND Awareness day is to highlight the impact of the disease, support those living with it, honour carers and remember those who have passed away. The purpose of the day is raise public awareness and to promote hope for advancements in research, treatment and ultimately a cure. It is also a time to encourage communities to get involved by arranging local fundraisers, educational activities, social media campaigns and by showing solidarity.

As part of the day some buildings will be lit up blue. You can donate to MND or run a workplace fundraiser.
